How Scarlett Johansson Reacted To Husband Colin Jost's NSFW 'SNL' Joke

Scarlett Johansson is no stranger to her husband Colin Jost's comedy, not to mention having her own comedic skills, but even she was taken aback by some of the Saturday Night Live star's crude jokes.

Jost shocked viewers during the Christmas episode of SNL when he made some dirty jokes directed toward his wife. However, there is a catch: he didn't write them. His remarks were penned by Michael Che as part of a long-running tradition with his Weekend Update co-host where they write jokes for each other that they have to read on air during the annual episode. This year, Che aimed several hilarious jabs at the Black Widow star, forcing Jost to struggle through his delivery as Johansson watched on backstage, per People.

Jost shared how his wife reacted to the jokes during Monday (January 20) appearance on The Tonight Show. When host Jimmy Fallon asked if he was "in trouble" with the Marriage Story actress, Jost quipped that he's "in trouble, I think, with a lot people," adding that "Scarlett was genuinely so shocked."

The comedian said that while the team at SNL let Johannson know ahead of time that some jokes would be explicit, he didn't see the lines before the show and was equally as surprised as his wife, admitting, "I didn't know where it was going."

"They were like, 'Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?'" Jost recalled. "She was like, 'Sure, whatever, I'm open to it.'"

However, when it came time for the NSFW punchline, Jost admitted that he "didn't know where it was going" until a graphic of a roast beef sandwich showed on screen, shocking both him and his wife in what Fallon, an alum of SNL himself, called a "legitimate live moment."

"Scarlett was backstage like, 'Oh my god, that's what it is!" Jost said, adding that his own reaction was not played up because "I can't act that well."

Watch Jost explain it for himself in the video below.
